Charlie Barton

Charlie started painting professionally in 2001, following her graduation from Kingston University. She sold her first painting six months later.

Charlie claims that her father, who was a navigator, initially inspired her, as she recalls being fascinated by his charts & sextant. This was before she was lured by Nasa’s images of the Moon and Venus, her interest in which comes more from a metaphysical perspective as opposed to an astronomical one.

She says: “I love the idea that every atom in our bodies comes from supernova explosions; that human beings are made of stardust.  That all matter is a composite of particles held together by electromagnetic energy so nothing is truly solid and everything is vibrant energy filled with life force.  Thus everything is interlinked;  we are connected to each other biologically, to the earth chemically and to the rest of the universe atomically.”

Charlie lists Princess Michael of Kent, Theo and Louise Fennell, James Sainsbury and the Earl and Countess of Wessex, as both collectors and fans of her work.
